Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day one

Tuesday's Glorious Goodwood tips Castle Cove (Goodwood, 13.20) – 1pt win @ 4/1 (William Hill) Zavateri (Goodwood, 13.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) Kinross (Goodwood, 14.30) – 0.5pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) French Master (Goodwood, 15.05) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Enchanting (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 14/1 (William Hill) Naval Light (Goodwood, 16.20) – 1pt win @ 13/8 (Bet365) Mahra's Love (Goodwood, 16.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (William Hill) Cinque Verde (Goodwood, 17.30) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/1 (William Hill) Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap tips – 13.20 Goodwood Six of the last 10 winners of this tricky 1m2f handicap have come from double figure draws and the likely market leader on betting sites, Castle Cove, has that in his favour. The William Haggas-trained gelding showed ability when scoring at Leicester on debut last year. Comfortably held on his next two starts, he returned from a lengthy break to win going away off a hold-up ride at Chester last month. Both his wins have come with some ease in the ground but he should handle the forecast good going and an 8lb rise makes him look well treated now. He is unexposed and is taken to successfully follow up. Coral Vintage Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood The Coral Vintage Stakes looks like being a very informative Group 2 contest over 7f. Aidan O'Brien is responsible for the likely favourite, Dorset, who comes into this on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last month. He should go well, as should Humidity, for the Andrew Balding/James Doyle combination. A number of other debut winners in the field make this a bit of a conundrum but I like the look of Zavateri, who is 2-2. His style of running suggests he will relish this step up in trip. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is already proven in this grade, having won the Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, where he improved plenty for his debut success. He has a penalty to shoulder but looks capable of further improvement. Horse racing betting sites price him up at 6/1 to make his mark at Goodwood. HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood This looks tricky, with plenty of runners involved where some sort of case can be made and, at the same time, there can be some holes picked in their form. The award for consistency at this level would surely go to Kinross, and Ralph Beckett's eight-year-old gets the nod. He ran a blinder when runner-up in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on his reappearance. He should be spot on after that, acts on any ground and he is taken to add to his two previous wins in this race. Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood The centrepiece on day one is this Group 1 contest for the stayers and some of the sport's greatest have lifted this prize. Aidan O'Brien saddles the pre-race favourite, Illinois, who finished second to Trawlerman in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last month. His trainer said he didn't get a 'Cup preparation' for that event as he was being trained for shorter events, so it was an admirable effort and he looks a worthy market leader. Given that John and Thady Gosden trained the winner that day, they'll have a handle on how French Master compares and he steps up from Royal Ascot handicap success to the top table this time. That win was a career-best and he's earned his place in this field. An extra couple of furlongs looks a positive and he could emerge as a major player. A price of 11/2 on betting apps looks like good value for the French Master to triumph. Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap tips – 15.45 Goodwood Another tough big field handicap on day one is this Class 2 contest over 5f. Even though this is a straight track, it does take a bit of knowing and those with course form adds a little extra confidence. Into that category comes the Andrew Balding-trained Enchanting. He's a standish dish here, having won three times over C&D and run well on other occasions. He steps up in class this time, so does have a little to prove in that respect but conditions won't be a problem and he looks capable of going close at a double figure price. British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes tips – 16.20 Goodwood There's plenty of promise in the line-up, not least Naval Light. Karl Burke's colt found just one too good on debut at Beverley and was pitched in at Group 2 level at Royal Ascot. He didn't improve his chances that day with a slow start and, as a consequence, could never really get into the race. However, he came home well to pick off half of the field. Pilot James Doyle will surely not let him suffer the same start twice and he looks capable of breaking his duck at the third attempt. Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap tips – 16.55 Goodwood An excellent effort by Dash Of Azure when fifth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot has ensured the layers want to keep her onside and any value in her price has gone as a result. That's not the case with Mahra's Love, who comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Kempton (7f, AW) and more recently when making all at York (1m, good to firm). There was plenty to like about how she took that race by the scruff of the neck and comfortably accounted for the field. Her trainer, William Haggas, has his string in continued good form and she looks likely to continue on an upward curve, despite a 6lb rise. World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies' Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood The day one nightcap is another fillies' contest, this time over 6f. There looks to be a cracking each-way play here in Cinque Verde, who represents Tony Carroll. The daughter of Sioux Nation has had more success on all weather surfaces than turf but she has won on a sound surface, sees out 6f well and has been more consistent than many sprinters this calendar year. There are no secrets with her but she arrives on a competitive mark and looks capable of another big effort at a track where she's already been placed this season. Horse racing tips: Monday, July 21

Our in-house horse racing expert, Ron Wood, has had four winners from his previous nine tips (not including non-runners), including an 8/1 shot and a 9/2 NAP on Saturday, and is well in profit with his selections for the year. Monday's UK and Irish racing (Flat unless stated) Cartmel (jumps) 1.42-4.50; Racing TV Ayr 2.00-5.15; Racing TV Windsor 5.10-8.40; Sky Sports Racing Ballinrobe 5.30-8.30; Racing TV Beverley 6.20-8.50; Racing TV Ron Wood's selections NAP Forest Caper (4.05, Ayr) 1pt win @ 5/2 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Other Flowstate (2.30, Ayr) 1pt win @ 100/30 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (maximum five). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use on this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts 2.30, Ayr – Class 6 Handicap (6f; Racing TV) The David O'Meara-trained FLOWSTATE is 0-6 in handicap company, but when fourth in a Class 5 at Doncaster on his latest outing he was one place behind a runner who then won a Class 4 at Ayr. This pick now drops into a Class 6 for the first time and his maiden victory came on soft ground, so the ease underfoot is in his favour. 4.05, Ayr – Class 5 Handicap (1m; Racing TV) Another O'Meara charge, FOREST CAPER probably has improvement in him and looks a reasonable bet to make a successful handicap debut. This Lope De Vega gelding has run to a fair level in three starts in maiden and novice company, and his breeding suggests that getting on slow ground for the first time could help him. Forest Caper, who like Flowstate will be ridden by Daniel Tudhope, is a half-brother to seven winners, quite a few of them smart types. Where is Ryan Moore riding on Monday? Moore had three Group-race winners at the Curragh over the weekend, but has no booked rides today. And where is William Buick riding today? Buick is booked for three mounts at Windsor this evening, including Port Of London, a newcomer who goes in a maiden (6.40) for the jockey's employers, Godolphin. It will be interesting to see what this Night Of Thunder colt, trained by John and Thady Gosden, can do. When is the next big racing festival? The week-long Galway Festival kicks off in Ireland next Monday (July 28), followed a day later by Glorious Goodwood. Check out the latest Glorious Goodwood free bets and betting offers. The latter is a five-day fixture and is set to feature the Kingman colt Field Of Gold, possibly the best horse in the world, in the Sussex Stakes on July 30, one of three Group 1s at the meeting. What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings. The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'. ITV horse racing tips: Thursday, July 10

Ron Wood's selections NAP: Wimbledon Hawkeye (3.35, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 4/1 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Next best: Scandinavia (1.50, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 5/4 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Others: Brussels (2.25, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 2/1 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Hucklesbrook (3.00, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 6/1 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Night Shining (4.10, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 10/3 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Opera Ballo (4.45, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 5/4 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Parole D'oro (5.20, Newmarket) 1pt win @ 9/4 with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 1.50, Newmarket – Bahrain Trophy (Group 3, 1m 5f) Just five runners go in the opening race of the Newmarket July Festival and they include the runner-up, fifth, sixth and seventh from last month's 1m 6f Group 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. Furthur fared best of them in second, but he had a favourable run round whereas fifth-placed SCANDINAVIA and sixth-placed Hallelujah U did not have the race unfold to suit. It is Aidan O'Brien's charge who appeals most, as he had a wide trip at Ascot and on another day he might have won. The selection is a strong stayer, so this cut back in trip is not ideal, but there is more to come from him – and cheekpieces should help. 2.25, Newmarket – July Stakes (Group 2, 6f) This contest for two-year-olds features Ed Walker's Coventry Stakes runner-up Do Or Do Not, but BRUSSELS and Maximized, from the powerhouse stables of Aidan O'Brien and Charlie Appleby respectively, are probably the pair to concentrate on. Maximized was a £720,000 breeze-up buy in April and has won both his starts, most recently the Woodcote Stakes on Oaks Day at Epsom, possibly despite the slow ground. However, preference is for Brussels, who won a Curragh maiden in May on his debut. This Wootton Basset colt was considered too babyish for Royal Ascot, where his trainer had three juvenile winners, but this 300,000gn yearling is a big strong horse who is likely to improve to a smart level. O'Brien won this last year with Whistlejacket, a contender for this season's July Cup on Saturday. Selection: Brussels 1pt win @ 2/1 with William Hill 3.00, Newmarket – Heritage Handicap (6f) HUCKLESBROOK landed one of the hottest three-year-old sprint handicaps of the season at York last time, following up a tidy win at Leicester, so he is taken to prove the answer to this event, a similar contest to those previous two races. 3.35, Newmarket – Princess of Wales's Stakes (Group 2, 1m 4f) WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE has some of the strongest form in this race, including finishing second to the top-class Field Of Gold in the Craven and fifth in the 2,000 Guineas over a mile at HQ's other course. He has not progressed in two starts since, most recently not helping himself by taking a keen hold when fourth in the 1m 4f Group 2 King Edward VII at Royal Ascot. But that could prove a race to buy into – there were some good prospects there. The cheekpieces being discarded and a jockey switch may help our nap settle better this time, and his form is preferred to that of Ghostwriter's third in the Hardwicke at Ascot. Selection: Wimbledon Hawkeye 1pt win @ 4/1 with William Hill Go to site > 4.10, Newmarket – Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Class 2, 6f) Those with form in this contest do not look anything out of the ordinary but NIGHT SHINING may prove to be an above-average newcomer. George Boughey's filly cost 475,000gn as a yearling, and the booking of Ryan Moore points to this daughter of Dark Angel having a good chunk of ability. 4.45, Newmarket – Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (Listed, 1m) OPERA BALLO is headstrong, but despite that he won the Listed Heron Stakes in a newly fitted hood at Sandown last time, his third success from four starts. Charlie Appleby's charge attracts a 3lb penalty, but he has a lot of ability and ought to be maturing with racing, so is taken to have too much for some decent rivals. 5.20, Newmarket – Class 3 handicap (1m) The closing race can go to PAROLE D'ORO, who has shown plenty of talent and still looks to have improvement in him. He travelled really strongly when second at Thirsk on his reappearance and then he did not get much of a run when finishing eighth at Royal Ascot in the Britannia Stakes, a strong 30-runner handicap. Today's race is a drop in class for Michael Bell's three-year-old. Selection: Parole D'oro 1pt win @ 9/4 with William Hill Today's UK and Irish racing (Flat unless stated) Doncaster 1.30-5.30 Newmarket 1.50-5.20 Carlisle 2.10-5.07 Leopardstown 5.00-8.30 Newbury 5.25-8.55 Epsom 5.50-8.45 What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings. The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'. What is an each-way bet? An each-way bet is a popular type of wager, particularly with horse racing fans. It is essentially two bets, both of which have the same size stake. An each-way bet features one bet on the selection to win and the other bet on the selection to place. So a £10 each-way bet will cost you a total of £20. There will be one £10 bet on the selection to win and another £10 on the selection to place. It's a popular bet because it offers punters the chance of a return, even if the horse in question fails to win. Bookmakers will pay out at a stated percentage of the odds for a place finish, for example one-fifth of the starting price (SP) for finishing in the first three. The more runners there are in a horse race, the more places will be on offer. In races that feature lots of runners, the horses will be available at bigger odds, making an each-way bet a wise choice.
